The Sky-Watcher Evostar 72EDX apochromatic doublet refractor has received a series of exciting upgrades. We are proud to introduce the new EVOSTAR 72EDX, which incorporates several practical mechanical improvements.
Finished in a striking white‑and‑green livery, the EVOSTAR 72EDX is a versatile instrument ideal for both imaging and visual observing, and it comes with all the essential accessories.
Key upgrades include:
- A rack‑and‑pinion focuser with a 2.2 in. indexed drawtube
- A built‑in 360° rotatable adapter
- A retractable dew shield
- A convenient carrying handle
The telescope retains the excellent f/5.8 proprietary optics of its predecessor, featuring a premium ED glass element that virtually eliminates chromatic aberration. An optional, optically matched 0.85× focal reducer/field flattener (code OV#20258) is available for imaging.
The optics deliver pinpoint stars against deep, charcoal‑black skies with rich contrast. Every air‑to‑glass surface is coated with exotic metallic anti‑reflection layers, achieving light transmission of up to 99.5 %. Sky‑Watcher’s proprietary Metallic High‑Transmission Coatings (MHTC) represent the highest‑performance photon‑preserving coatings in their class.
Apochromatic refractors provide textbook diffraction patterns and, aperture for aperture, deliver the sharpest, highest‑quality images of any telescope design.
For years the Evostar‑ED doublets have been the refractor of choice for many astrophotographers, offering outstanding imaging performance at an affordable price. Their simpler, lighter construction makes them easier to handle than equivalent‑aperture triplet or multi‑element ED designs.
