What does “noise” mean in a power supply?

• Electrical noise: Unwanted voltage or current fluctuations that are superimposed on the DC voltage. These can originate from the power supply itself (e.g., due to switching operations in switching power supplies) or from external interference.
• Types of noise:
  • Ripple: Periodic fluctuations, usually at the mains frequency or switching frequency.
