Seestar S30 Fully Automatic "Smart" Telescope - Grand Technology
The Seestar S30 is an innovative "smart telescope" that allows you to observe and explore the sun, moon, and stars of our galaxy. With its compact size and lightweight design, it is ideal for beginners and experienced astronomers alike. The integrated 2MP camera enables you to take high-quality images and store them. The Seestar S30 features Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity, allowing you to transfer your observations directly to your smartphone or tablet.
Features and Functions
- Automated object tracking and detection
- Live image transmission to mobile devices or computers
- Time-lapse and motion capture
- Planetary and lunar phase observation
- Star chart and object database
- Weather and environmental monitoring
Mosaic Function
A special highlight is the mosaic mode, which provides an extended field of view and allows you to capture large celestial objects such as nebulas and galaxies in their entirety. Additionally, the Seestar S30 features three fixed filters: a UV/IR cutoff filter, a dual-band filter for enhancing contrast in gas nebulae, and a dark filter for calibration.
Automatic Image Optimization
The telescope offers intelligent noise reduction and autofocus, ensuring clear and detailed images even in challenging lighting conditions. Image processing is done directly in the app, allowing for automatic adjustment of image quality with just one click.
User-Friendliness
Thanks to the built-in sensors and connection to the smartphone's GPS, the Seestar S30 performs self-calibration and automatic alignment.
The operation is incredibly simple: after selecting a celestial object in the app, the telescope takes over the entire alignment and capture process.
Versatile Applications
The Seestar S30 is perfect for astrophotography, especially for capturing nebulas and galaxies. It is also suitable for nature observation, although less so for detailed observation of the moon and planets. With its compact design and weight of only 1.8 kg, it is ideal for travel and mobile use.
30mm Optics
The ZWO Seestar S30 is equipped with a high-quality apochromatic triplet objective lens with a 30mm diameter and 150mm focal length, providing sharp images.
Sensor Chip
The high-resolution Sony IMX662 sensor (Starvis 2) enables you to capture the beauty of the night sky in stunning detail.
The field of view is 1080x1920 pixels in tele mode and 1920x1080 pixels in wide-angle mode.
Images are saved as JPEG and FITS files.
Star Chart, GoTo, Autofocus, and Tracking
With innovative features like GoTo (automatic object tracking), autofocus, and live stacking, you can discover the wonders of the universe in real-time. The telescope automatically adjusts to the movement of the sky and keeps your target object in focus.
Portable and Powerful
The ZWO Seestar S30 is lightweight and portable (total weight with case: 2.7 kg), with a built-in battery that allows for up to 8 hours of uninterrupted observation and photography.
During operation, it can be powered by an optional power bank.
The Seestar S30's battery has a rated capacity of 6000mAh, and the tested battery life is around 6 hours (around 4 hours in wide-angle mode).
Tips
In practice, the battery performance will vary depending on the ambient temperature, operating process, and target object, especially after turning on the objective heater, which significantly reduces the battery life.
Mini Tripod with 3/8"
The small tripod is perfect for travel.
For other applications, we recommend a higher photographer's tripod with a large 3/8" screw thread.
The tripod should be level, but can also be easily adjusted using the app, as the Seestar features a built-in "bubble level", although the tripod itself does not.
Filter against Light Pollution
An integrated dual-band filter allows the two main wavelengths in astrophotography to pass through, while also providing good suppression of city lights.
The two spectral main lines are [O-III] (30nm bandwidth) and the H-alpha line (20nm bandwidth).
This is a good compromise for photographing nebulas, supernova remnants, galaxies, and star clusters.
Dark Frames
The essential dark frames for noise reduction can be created using the sensor's automatic shutter.
Solar Observation and Solar Eclipses
With the included solar filter, you can safely photograph the sun in white light. The sun's image itself is orange (wavelength: 580-630nm).
For a solar eclipse, you would only remove the solar filter during the total phase to capture the corona (sun's halo), and then immediately replace the filter when the first sunbeams appear (don't forget to observe the eclipse yourself, as no photo can replace this experience).
The filter has an optical density of 5.
Important Safety Notice:
- Never photograph the sun without a solar filter (except during a total solar eclipse), as this will destroy the Seestar.
- We do not know which solar filter foil is used and whether it provides adequate protection for our eyes, so please only use the solar filter for photographic purposes with the Seestar, and not for visual observation.
- For visual observation, please use a strictly certified Baader AstroSolar solar filter foil. Our eyes do not react to the hazardous heat radiation - please do not risk anything!
- Ask us about safe solar observation, as you have exactly two attempts to permanently damage your eyesight with incorrect use.
Bluetooth and Wi-Fi
Wireless connectivity is available via Bluetooth or Wi-Fi (2.4G/5G) network.
Carrying Case
A softcase holds the "Seestar" and tripod, providing good protection.
Software and Updates

The intuitive Seestar app allows you to control the telescope from your smartphone (iOS and Android) - it is regularly updated.
You can find the app in the respective stores.
Language: currently no German support.
Supported languages: English, French, Japanese, Portuguese, Chinese, Spanish
Optional Accessories
Follows.
Please note that you should remove any accessories (except possibly the solar filter) before turning off the telescope or bringing it back to the home position, as this can cause damage.
Disadvantages
Admittedly, the technology is uniquely good and shows where the future is headed, i.e., you don't really learn much about the starry sky, as the technology takes care of almost everything.
Due to the relatively small optics and short focal length, it is not really suitable for planetary photography (nor is the Seestar S50, although it offers slightly higher resolution than the S30).
If you want to get into astrophotography seriously, we recommend a conventional telescope system tailored to your needs, which is much more powerful.
The ZWO Seestar S30 telescope opens the door to the infinite vastness of the universe.
