With our Sonnensucher DSLR Mini, you can locate the sun safely.
The method is relatively simple – in fact, even simpler than the ‘shadow method’ – as you simply point your camera (lens) towards the sun whilst looking only at the white circle (the shadow method serves as a preliminary adjustment/alignment).
Once the sun is correctly centred, you will see it as a bright spot in the centre of the white area.
A quick check through the camera – protected by a solar filter – will show you that the sun is centred. Now draw a black dot on the white area, and you’ll be able to find the sun again and again.
Difference between the DSLR and DSLR Mini versions:
The Mini version is the world’s smallest sunfinder (it could be even smaller, but that would compromise its handling – in other words, if it’s so small that you can no longer hold it and it keeps falling out of your hand, it’s no fun). The standard version is taller, which is important if an existing lens sun filter blocks your view. So, the key point is: if your view isn’t blocked by a lens sun filter, you can opt for the Mini version.
The difference – 100% eye safety
Our Astrogarten solar viewfinders stand out thanks to a key safety feature – designed to protect your eyes 100 per cent – because you look AWAY FROM(!) the sun into our Astrogarten DSLR Mini solar viewfinder and never(!) look through it from behind, as you would with a standard telescope or other unsafe solar viewfinders! This inevitably leads you to look directly at the sun and suffer eye damage.
That’s not the case with our product – we offer nothing but 100% eye safety!

Safety warning
The Sun must only be observed with adequate protective measures (e.g. solar filters), as you could otherwise lose your eyesight in a fraction of a second! Please also ensure, for all cameras, that you do NOT have an additional optical viewfinder, as this would cause immediate eye damage. This means that if the camera is protected by a filter, the viewfinder must also be protected at the same time (or the small front window must be covered so that no light can enter – and also to prevent anyone from accidentally looking through the camera)! Images should then only be viewed via the DSLR display.
