Looking at or near the Sun will cause instant and irreversible damage to your eyes, including blindness. Eye damage is often painless, so there is no warning to the observer that damage has occurred until it is too late. Do not point a telescope or its viewfinder at or near the Sun. Do not look through a telescope or its viewfinder as it is moving.

The full aperture of any instrument that is pointed at the sun must be covered with a proper solar filter or filter/mask combination.

Children and Visitors should be supervised by an adult at all times when partaking in solar observation. Otherwise, keep solar equipment out of a child's and visitors reach to avoid accidental injury.

The LUNT Solar-Wedge / Herschel-Wedge for refractor-telescopes uo to 150mm aperture with 1¼" focuser. Provides superior White Light views and images of the sun. Complete system with installed filter ND3.0!

Herschel Wedges / Solar Wedges will be used to observe the sun with refractor telescopes in white light. ~95% of the sun light will be suppressed by the Herschel Wedge. The remaining 5% are dimmed by a fix installed ND3.0 strong gray filter. A polarizing filter can reduce the light to the desired level.

The difference between Herschel Wedges and normal front mounted filters is, that the filtering takes place just before the eyepiece or camera. This will provide a better contrast and sharpness of the solar image.
The advantages of the new LUNT Herschel Wedges:

especially high-quality optical surfaces for very good contrast
fully closed body with integrated heat trap
no stray light escaping - so it is very safe

Only for use with refractor telescopes up to 150mm aperture:
Because the full energy and heat of the sun will be inside the telescope, we advise to use only refractors with a Herschel Wedge. The refractors must not have corrector lenses at the back. Optical elements like corrector lenses or secondary mirrors of reflector telescopes become very hot by the concentrated solar energy and could be damaged.

Tuning the brightness:
Because the Herschel Wedge produce polarized light, you can use a normal polarizing filter at the eyepiece or camera-adapter. By turning the polarizing filter the brightness will be reduced.

Safety Informations:

For visual use: NEVER remove the build-in 1:1000 (D=3) neutral density filter
Important: Before each and every use, check to ensure that the filter is in place and securely mounted in the prism (not loose, cracked, or broken)
BE CAREFUL! NEVER USE THE HERSCHEL WEDGE COMPLETELY WITHOUT FILTERS! This may perhaps destroy your (digital-) camera or hurt your eye!
