Sky-Watcher CMOS entry-level cameras – affordable, powerful, versatile

Sky-Watcher offers two colour CMOS cameras featuring the tried-and-tested Sony IMX585C and IMX533C sensors. The immediately eye-catching low price is due to passive cooling: the sensors are not actively cooled, which keeps the cameras simple and affordable.

What does this mean for you?
No active cooling system ⇒ image noise is slightly higher compared to state-of-the-art, cooled cameras.

Nevertheless, excellent results for typical entry-level images of the Sun (don’t forget the filter!), Moon, planets and many deep-sky objects.

Dark frame processing makes it possible to clearly highlight faint celestial objects.

For ambitious astrophotographers, however, we recommend a camera with active cooling to further reduce noise and exploit the full potential during long exposure times.

This gives beginners an attractive price-performance ratio, whilst advanced users can upgrade to cooled models as required.

Note: Always use suitable filters to protect the sensors from direct sunlight.
