Primary focus photography is a widely used method for photographing nebulae or star clusters. You need an SLR/DSLR (Single Lens Reflex/Digital Single Lens Reflex) camera which is connected directly to your telescope. With this method, the lens is replaced by the telescope. In this way you achieve a higher magnification than with a camera lens. When photographing objects such as nebulae in the primary focus, it is necessary to track the telescope for a longer period of time. This may sound difficult at first, but with a little practice you will get better and better at it.
What you need:
- Astronomical telescope
An equatorial mount with polar finder is required. Long exposure times are required for faint objects such as nebulae and star clusters, so use products with an autoguiding function. For optics, larger apertures from 150mm are recommended. - Optional accessories for cameras
Suitable T2 rings and, if necessary, focal adapters (wide photo adapter 60mm) for Vixen. - Optional instruments for accurate tracking
Guide scope or autoguider are useful.
Eyepiece projection photography
Eyepiece projection photography is required to photograph surface details of the moon or planets. In contrast to primary focus photography, where only the telescope is used, the eyepiece plays a major role in eyepiece projection photography.
What you need:
- Astronomical telescope
You will need an equatorial mount with motorized tracking and polar finder. - Optional accessories to mount the camera with an eyepiece on the telescope
Eyepiece projection camera adapter and a suitable T2 ring are required.
